One Pound Tarp

One Pound Tarp
  • 14 ounces
  • 8' X 10'
  • Fast drying silicone coated nylon
  • Supports designs other than the basic A-frame with 16 grommets and 3 ties

Tarps just make sense. For starters, they avoid unnecessary features like floors and doors. You can use an Ultra ground cloth as the floor. A door can be fashioned from garbage bags fastened to the strategically placed ties. Tarps are easy to set up and tear down. Last but not least, there's no condensation problem.

If you're the creative type, you can rig the tarp in shapes other than the basic A-frame design. It can easily accommodate two people. Ties are reinforced for strength.

Once you've experienced the pleasures of light and airy tarp living, you'll never go back to heavy, damp, dark, stuffy, enclosed tents.

Ordering Information

Pyramid Pyramid
  • 4.5 ounces
  • 34" H X 33" W X 32" L
  • 4 corner ties
  • 4 sides + floor

Tap into the power of the Pyramid! Its five sides (count 'em) offer solid protection against insane mosquitoes. The floor (the fifth side) keeps the Pyramid positioned over your head even when you roll around during the night. Its single point of attachment overhead means you can easily set it up anywhere, inside or outside your shelter. Four loops allow you to stake out the corners. An elastic drawcord with cordlock snugs the entry-side around your sleeping bag for complete protection. A 24" zipper provides easy access. 34" H X 33" W X 32" L – just right for one person. Only 4.5 ounces.

One Pound Tent One Pound Tent
  • 14 ounces

  • 90" Long x 64" Wide x 36" High

  • 19 ties

Well, it's not really a tent but rather a floorless tarp with doors. The doors fasten from top to bottom with Velcro® to keep out the elements. You can get two people inside by using the two side-wall ties to pull the walls out for more room. The tent is made of 1.1 ounce silicone coated nylon. It is designed to be set up as an A-frame. You don't have to carry any tent poles but can use trees, branches or hiking poles as support on both ends. (The picture shows a hiking pole and a tree used for support.) Could this be the world's lightest shelter?

Ordering Information

Ultra Ground Cloth

Ultra Ground Cloth

  • 4.5 ounces
  • Spinnaker fabric
  • 32" foot pocket
  • Washable
  • 42" X 90"

The lowly ground cloth goes ultra hi-tech. Made of featherweight coated nylon ripstop, spinnaker fabric is used in the boating industry to make sails. For backpacking purposes, the fabric is tough, waterproof and light. The foot pocket protects your sleeping bag from rain, keeps you from rolling off and can be used to store stuff. 42" W X 90" L with 32" foot pocket. Only 4.5 ounces.

Ordering Information

Nylon Ground Cloth Nylon Ground Cloth
  • 4.9 ounces
  • Silicone coated nylon
  • Ties on each corner
  • 42" X 90"

Slightly heavier than the Ultra Ground Cloth, the Nylon Ground Cloth one offers corner ties to deal with the wind problem. Thus it can be used when sleeping out under the stars. Note that there is no foot pocket.

Ordering Information

Tent Peg

Aluminum Peg

  • 1/2 ounce
  • 340 E9 aluminum tubing with a solid tip
  • Cord loops through hole in cap

I like this peg because it's strong yet light. It won't bend when you jam it into rocky ground. At 8" in length, it won't blow out in a storm.

Ordering Information

Titanium Tent /Tarp Peg Titanium Peg
  • 1/5 ounce
  • 6" in length

These titanium pegs are the lightest of the lightest. At 1/5 ounce, they are 20% lighter than traditional titanium stakes! Their skinny 6" size packs easily, resists dirt cling, and they are strong. When driven into rocky ground, titanium springs back to a straight shaft rather than bend if it encounters resistance.
